Imbil 19-20 Nov 2005
This must be
one of the top favorites of a Rally in Queensland. Imbil
is just 20 minutes west off the Bruce Highway, just south
of Gympie and around two hours from Brisbane. If you like
you can take various scenic detours on your way to get
there. Kickan and I had things to do on Saturday, so we
arrived late morning on Saturday.
The Imbil township was
buzzing from the traffic of motorbikes. This year, there
were no cars and car trailers and caravans allowed at
the bottom of the camp, by the river or up at the Gymkhana
area. This was a great idea and left so much more room
for all the bikes and their much more modest tents.
We had the first run with our single wheel trailer, the
Uni-Go. After events beyond our control, a third party
had the opportunity to misplace *(loose) an integral part
of our trailer coupling several weeks ago. The replacement
attachment was far too loose and had given us some problem
on the way up, but all went well. With supposedly 997
people there, we were surprised to see so much great room
by the river. The atmosphere was great. Those Bambi burgers
are a bit of a tradition now, as is the constant shelling
with tennis balls using home made bazookas in some quarters.
Competition was tough with a large number of entrants
in the Gymkhana. After four heats, I managed to secure
the final and the win in the Barrel race. Trophies were
great artistic metal works and much appreciated. Saplings
from past year are now starting to give some good shade
around the Gymkhana area.
The disco was going until very late. The place was packed
and a great opportunity to catch up with many friends
from over the years. Like Mr Mutt, who was wearing a purple
bowler hat and like always groping the ladies long after
we had called it a night. Like always I marveled over
our generation. Never grow up to be dull old people. Heck
we never grow old, we just grow older. The same teenage
rebel attitudes and cheeky / foxy girl action keeps going
on and on. What a very appreciate slogan we have, Growing
Old Disgracefully.
What on earth did our parents do for fun at our current
age. Well there wasn't’t much rock and roll and
great motor biking for most of them. The next generation,
will they carry on like this when they reach this age,
I doubt it very much. Thank God I was born in the Fifties!
What a great generation and philosophy.
The one thing to remember
though. Keep your cool. Don’t get grumpy or give
up on the club. Let’s rock on people!
